Obituary for Doyle Towns Jr.

Doyle “JR” Towns was born March 23, 1966, in Jeffersonville, IN to the proud parents of Ann and Doyle Towns Sr. JR accepted/professed Christ at an early age. As a young child he found adventure in whatever he did. He could easily master many tasks. The first time he rode a bike, he insisted he could do so without the assistance of training wheels and he did! He made friends easily, but his closest confidant was his big brother Anthony “Tony” Towns.
JR always had his own drum and “action themed” music that followed him in life. After graduating high school, JR attended Kentucky State University. He made a place for himself in the marching band. He was not formally trained on an instrument, but he decided this was what he wanted and he made it happen for himself.
JR determined, at a young age, he would not be confined to society rules and he became an entrepreneur. He could never imagine himself working for “the man” and used his God given talents to open his own business. His business, during prosperous or bleak times, was his and he answered only to God and himself.
JR loved God, his family and his true friends. He loved Louisville and was a true U of L fan. His mischievous smile, infectious laugh and raw humor will be missed. In the words of the famous song, I Did It My Way, JR did it his way.
JR is preceded in death by his loving parents Doyle Towns Sr., Ann M. (Towns) Nurse and sister Lynn Nurse.
He is survived by his brothers Anthony “Tony” Towns, Christopher “CJ” Nurse, James A. Nurse and sisters Dalanda (Jenifer) Montgomery and Karen Towns-McCants. He leaves behind aunts and uncles’ which are part of the Robinson, Towns and Nurse Families. JR was the uncle to five nephews, two nieces, two great nieces and one great nephew. He leaves behind many beloved cousins and friends.
JR words of wisdom would be to know Jesus for yourself and never dim your light to make others comfortable, be true to who you are.

Memorial Service: Saturday May 11, 2019, 1:00 P.M. at First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 1506 Spring Street, Jeffersonville, IN. Interment: Eastern Cemetery Graham St & E. 8th St., Jeffersonville, IN.
