Obituary for Theodoshia Belle Lewis

Ms. Theodoshia Belle “Theo” Lewis, daughter of the late George and Viola Mitchell was born May 12,1936 in Norfolk, VA. The family relocated to Louisville, KY where she attended and graduated from the Louisville Public School system and raised her family. She resided in Memphis TN for a brief period before moving back to her beloved hometown of Louisville, KY. She was united in Holy Matrimony to James Loftis Sr. This union was blessed with children. She later moved to Nashville, TN. There she served faithfully on the Mother Board and as the Minister of Music at Prince of Peace COGIC

Mother Lewis was an accomplished pianist. She began playing at the tender age of 4. A nurse by profession but a piano player at heart. She played all over Louisville KY and surrounding cities from Mayfield KY to Nashville TN to Chicago IL She even had the opportunity to play for Clara Ward and The Ward Singers! Some of her favorite songs to play were “Oh Happy Day” and “Order My Steps”. She loved anything leopard print, perhaps because we all had a special spot in her heart. She also loved a good hot fish sandwich, a strong cup of coffee and a great murder mystery. Her infectious laugh could make you laugh, but do not get it misconstrued, she was no nonsense type of woman. Mother Lewis maintained her trademark sense of humor and wit all the way to the end As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life Tuesday August 11, 2020 at Cumberland Manor Nursing Home in Nashville TN. She was preceded in death by her sister Viola Lewis, brother, Alphonso Mitchell, daughter, Jane Stone, son Kenneth Loftis, and grandson Deshard Walker.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: James (Rosie) Loftis, Deborah (Erie) Paige, Kirk Walker, Charlotte (Walter) Walker, Alphonso “Mickey” Walker, Jacqueline “Wendy” (Freddie) Walker, and Mary Margaret Saunders. Brother Otis (Betty) Mitchell. 20 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, friends, and church members.
