Obituary
Dewey Douglas Ray, Jr. “Butch”was born on January 25, 1963 to the parentage of Dewey D. Ray, Sr. and Mona Webster Ray and departed this earthly life on Sunday May 19,2019.

Butch accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at the Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church.

He learned to cook during his time in the U.S. Army and cooking became his passion. He became a chef and worked on the Islands of Louisville, Buckhead Grill, Blue Boar and Hasenour’s Restaurant.

Dewey became addicted to drugs and went through a program at the Healing Place to get clean. When he graduated the program, he was offered a job at the Healing Place. He was such an asset to the program, he was presented the opportunity to move to Morehead, KY to help get the Inspiration Center up and operating.

While living in Morehead Butch decided to go back to school and he received a degree in Psychology to become a Phase-Out Counselor. He traveled to several prisons to teach classes on drug abuse. He enjoyed his work and helping others. Health reasons caused his to move back to Louisville to be near his family.

Butch loved to fish, and boy did he catch them. He would fish from morning til night. He loved spoiling his nieces and nephews as well as any child he met.

Dewey leaves to cherish his sweet memory, mother, Mona Ray; brothers, Dwayne L. Ray, Darryl L. Ray, Sr., Derrick Smith; sister, Nicole Smith; loving companion, Anita Robinson, nine nieces, six nephews, eleven great-nieces; seven great-nephews and a host of family members and friends.
